Certified Industrial Hygienists is a national program certifying individuals who met the minimum requirements for education and experience, and through examination, have demonstrated a minimum level of knowledge protecting and enhancing the health and safety of people at work and in their communities. Health and safety hazards cover a wide range of chemical, physical, biological and ergonomic stressors. CIH was launched in 1960. NCHH has evaluated the program and determined that it is a credible program and is directly relevant to healthier homes. See www.abih.org for more information.

The Certified Industrial Hygienist program is run by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene. The program has a strong and well defined program to handle complaints that includes an option for people with a complaint to appeal the decisions to the Board. The program has been accredited by:
